The Mettler family heritage honors over 100 years and six generations of farming in Lodi with the release of this 'Epicenter' old vine Zinfandel. Grapes for this wine were harvested from one of the oldest Zinfandel vineyards on our ranch where the deep-rooted vines thrive in rich, sandy loam soils. This 50-year old vineyard is located in the 'epicenter' of Lodi's old vine Zinfandel district. The Mettler 2007 Zinfandel draws us in with its bright ruby-garnet color. It leads with briary raspberry and dark cherry aromas with an elegant mineral note and a nuance of smoky pepper. Flavors of supple blackberry, licorice and fresh cracked black pepper reside on a bed of soft-edged tannins, but are kept bright and juicy by a nice thread of acidity rounded out by smooth tobacco and ripe raspberry preserves. This is a Zin that is full of personality and shows it off with a supple, refined core of lively, jammy flavors. The satisfying display of fruit lingers well into the finish as the wine gains richness and complexity.
